As an ex Telstra employee of 14+ years, I say the following even if old now:
The management hate bad press, in the open;
Management dislike anything that resembles a Lawyer who might want to go to court or to the press.
An acquaintance told me how his management had kept him waiting for over a year and it all changed when he went to a lawyer who sent a letter to HR/CEO. This same man told me that despite the company saying how bad I was, that in fact they needed me and many others. We would get a job easily in another company because many employment agencies knew how these companies worked and this included a couple of banks as well and how they treated their staff.
There was a time when Telstra was loosing employee's telephone accounts because the likes of Three/Hutchison having better deals. Then Telstra woke up and offered better phone plans for staff but it was to late for me.. I'd been ripped off by the company I worked for.
We have similar management styles here in Switzerland with Novartis or Roche - pharmaceutical companies.. Good people being slowly driven into the ground....
but people need to earn money to live and these companies think 'we have people working for us and they like it, so we don't see anything wrong...' But when citizens/customers complain.. things can move... Bettina wrote this to bring this to our attention...

Anything that threatens a managers bonus will make them sit up. They will try to make out that you are the problem, but rest assured.. if it smells like 'I might not get my bonus' they will react...

How things have changed, back in 2020 a male relative separated from his ex, he was the principal account holder with another Telco, the call taker suggested he get her off the account as women are known to rack up enormous phone bills when they share the account. He requested her to get off the account, she refused so he informed he he would pay out what was left on her plan , told her what he was doing was on advise from the Telco & closed her account. Best thing he did and she had to pay her own bill.
This is a public backing down by Telstra, but will the original misandristic policy in practice become 'de rigueur' within Telstra?
When Telstras' policy is released it will be interesting to see what safeguards are put in place and if "the right of appeal" is entrenched in the policy or not. I suspect they will "accidently" omit these and then back-peddle only if there is public outrage at the misandry.
